The Village of Libertyville is located in south central Lake County, approximately 37 miles from Chicago and seven miles west of Lake Michigan. The Village is an established residential community and has traditionally served as a major market and service center for central Lake County. The population of the Village, approximately 20,000 in 1997, has more than doubled since 1960, as the Village has shared in the economic growth that has come from the expanding Chicago metropolitan area. An ongoing effort to restore and preserve historic Libertyville contributes to the traditional home town atmosphere in the Village. |
Libertyville is a unique community in that it provides a full range of government services including police and fire protection, water and sewer operations, planning and development, parks and recreation, street and roadway maintenance, and administration and finance. Libertyville residents enjoy these government services and do not have to pay extra for these services through separate taxing districts. This structure allows the Village government full control over the direction and quality of service delivery that best fits the needs of Libertyville residents. The Village Board and administrative staff operate with a goal of providing the Village of Libertyville residents with the highest level of service possible with available funds while seeking additional funding sources that minimize dependency on property taxes.
